Guidelines 1/2020 on processing personal data in the context of connected vehicles and mobility related applications
Section 3.1 Provision of a service by a third party
102. Data subjects may contract with a service provider in order to obtain added-value services relating to their vehicle. For example, a data subject may enter into a “Pay As You Drive” insurance contract that offers reduced insurance premiums for good driving behaviour and which necessitates monitoring of driving habits by the insurance company. A data subject could also contract with a company that offers roadside assistance in the event of a breakdown and which entails the transmission of the vehicle’s location to the company or with a service provider in order to receive messages or alerts relating to the vehicle’s functioning (e.g., an alert on the state of brake wear, or a reminder of the technical-inspection date).
